What does a flight instructor?
The flight instructor is a professional who teaches others how to fly.
They are responsible for training future pilots to obtain flight licenses and ratings.
They teach their students to become pilots by imparting the culture of safety, knowledge of air regulations, and the functioning of the aircraft.
Course objectives
The mail goal of the training program is to prepare future instructors who can provide the best possible training for the next generation of pilots, teaching safely as a Flight Instructor in appropriate courses, such as the PPL course.
Flight instructors play a fundamental role in aviation: they provide new pilots with a professional model to follow and impart the experience that cannot be found in textbooks. For a student, having a good instructor can make the difference between a career in aviation and switching professions after the first course.
In addition, Asteraviation Flight Instructor (FI) Course aims to:
- Enhance the theoretical knowledge of the instructor candidate;
- Teach the innovative teaching methodology of Asteraviation Academy, to be applied to theoretical subjects and flight missions, placing CRM and Human Factors at the center of the training;
- Train the instructor candidate to use different teaching methods so that they can choose the most suitable one for each student.
Requirements for the Fligth instructor Course
To become a Flight Instructor, there are several requirements to met. The candidate must:
- Hold a CPL (A) or ATPL (A) License;
- Complete a flight evaluation with the Chief Flight Instructor of the Academy;
- Have completed at least 30 hours of flight on SEP class aircraft, including 5 hours in the last 6 months;
- Have received 10 hours of IFR instruction, with no more than 5 hours on FNPT or approved simulator;
- Have completed at least 20 hours of flight as Pilot-in-Command (PIC), including a 300 NM (540 km) flight with 2 full landings at 2 airports different from the departure airport;
- If holding only a PPL (A), the candidate must have at least 200 total flight hours, with 150 hours as PIC, and have passed the CPL (A) theoretical exams as required by PART-FCL.
Structure and duration of the flight instructor course
The course lasts between 3 and 5 months, which can be extended upon the candidate’s request, and is structured into two parts:
Theoretical part
It includes 125 hours of lessons covering current regulations, teaching techniques, and the understanding of the physiological and psychophysical components that influence the decisions of students.
Practical part
At the same time of the theoretical part, practical training takes place with a minimum of 30 hours of flight on the Academy's aircraft.
